General information about VBN
The VBN (Vereniging van Bloemenveilingen in Nederland; Association of Dutch Flower Auctions) has been the umbrella organisation of the Dutch cooperative horticultural auctions since 1974. Under the banner of the VBN, joint activities are conducted on behalf of the Dutch horticultural auctions.
The Dutch horticultural auctions are world leaders in the price-setting and distribution of flowers and plants. The auctions are cooperatives, formed of growers who have combined forces to organise their sales jointly.
Originally, the auctions were local cooperatives. Today members of the auctions are found throughout the Netherlands and even further afield. In principle, the growers must sell their entire production through their own auction. This rule forms the core of the Dutch auction system.
Royal FloraHolland and Plantion are members of the VBN. Veiling Rhein-Maas is not a member of the VBN but follows its regulations.
The board of the VBN consists of representatives of the two associated flower auctions, Royal FloraHolland and Plantion, and the secretary of the VBN.
